On Thursday, August 20,2026 Khwarizmi college of engineering received a specialized committee from the University of Baghdad presidency to assess the college`s readiness to establish the cybersecurity engineering department. This initiative reflects the college`s vision of introducing new engineering disciplines that align with the objectives of the ministry of higher education and scientific research, with the aim of keeping pace with technological development and meeting the evolving need of the job market needs.
The committee was chaired by professor Dr. Hussein Qassim Hussein , scientific affairs manager and, as members , professor Dr. Manal Shakir Ali ,planning and studies department manager , Mr. Omar Faiz Hussein , Quality Assurance and university performance department manager , Ms. Shatha , responsible for curricula .the committee was well received by the dean professor Dr. Wadoud Taher Muhammad and the administrative and the scientific assistants , where a detailed presentation was delivered highlighting the college`s capabilities and the available infrastructure ,in accordance with the official requirements and the approved application checklist
The committee conducted a field visit to assess the college infrastructure, equipment, educational and technical facilities related to the specialty, aiming to evaluate the extent to which the college has fulfilled the requirements for launching the department. The committee also highlights the role of the college in providing all the facilities and the essential resources, emphasizing the college`s readiness to proceed in completing the remaining of approvals.
The proposed department represents an important step in strengthening the college engineering programs to be aligned with rapid digital transformation and the governmental and private need to engineering staff who are specialized in the field of cybersecurity and networking and information security.
It is expected to complete the procedure of launching the department in the near future, in which paving the way toward students` admissions, also adding academic courses to the engineering specialties systems at the college, as well as promoting the college role in preparing qualified engineers who have the capabilities in keeping pace with future requirements and job market in the field of information technologies.
