About the Department<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Department of Biochemical Engineering is one of the most modern specialized departments in the country. The department was established within the departments of Al Khwarizmi College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad in the academic year (2002-2003) because it is of great importance in keeping pace with the global industrial development and the country’s need for this specialization, even in the developed world. Biochemical engineering is a combination of the scientific theories of life sciences, chemistry and physics, on the one hand, and engineering applications with their concepts and uses on the other, under the control of the computer with the highest possible technology.<\/span><\/p>\n

A biochemical engineer is studying how to take advantage of the interrelationships between microorganisms and their outer surroundings and to transform the laboratory results of these relationships into important industrial processes of economic feasibility. The study in biochemical engineering is based on the knowledge of biotechnologies; applied science based on microorganisms, within scientific and engineering principles, and economic considerations for the development of industrial processes and processed products for human service.The effective use of physical, chemical and biological processes to convert raw material into a product that benefits humans in a safe, cost-effective manner, with minimal energy and minimal damage to the environment is the fundamental principle of biochemical engineering. The design and development of new biotechnological processes and the production of useful products, for the effectiveness of a biochemical engineer.The duration of the study in the department is four years and the department accepts the students that graduated from the secondary school in both branches (biological and applied). The graduate is awarded a bachelor’s degree in biochemical engineering<\/span><\/p>\n
