An introductory overview of the Information Technology Division
The Information Technology Unit, which was established at the Al-Khwarizmi College of Engineering pursuant to Administrative Order No. (AD/1247) dated 5/19/2020, is considered the administrative nucleus that emerged from the Information Technology Division after its promotion to the level of an administrative division pursuant to Administrative Order No. 9999 dated On 6/5/2023. It became one of the divisions working in the Deanship of the College, directly affiliated with the Dean’s Office.
The division consists of three administrative units that work side by side to cover the college’s needs in terms of informatics and digital technologies, which are:
- Website unit
It joined the Information Technology Division wing after it was an independent unit linked to the college dean’s office. It manages the college’s official website in Arabic, and was able to implement its ambitious plan during the year 2023 to publicly publish the college’s official website in English, in addition to its active contribution to operating some social media sites belonging to the college, such as the main Facebook page and YouTube channel. The latter was established in 2012 to represent one of the leading channels at the University of Baghdad.
The website unit led significant improvements to the two official websites, which resulted in it achieving first place among all the official websites of the University of Baghdad in the annual evaluation of those sites in 2023, which was conducted by the university presidency.
- Software unit
It addresses the task of providing digital systems and programs that assist the various college formations in their work, and these tasks were assigned to the Information Technology Unit as one of the most important descriptions of its administrative work.
In this context, a set of programs dedicated exclusively to the college were completed at the Al-Khwarizmi College of Engineering, such as the program for distributing students to scientific departments according to their averages in the preparatory stage and their desires.
Our Minutes program is also beneficial to the College Council Secretariat to facilitate the management of the minutes of its Council sessions, speed up access to the precise details presented in its various paragraphs, and archive them graphically.
Another important achievement is the queues program, which helps the Preliminary Studies Student Affairs Division organize its referrals from students accepted in the first stage and their families during the registration period at the beginning of each academic year. This program has contributed to reducing crowding at registration stations and reducing the waiting time for applicants to the minimum possible.
The Software Unit is working on developing other programs for the Preliminary Studies Student Affairs Division and the Studies and Planning Division, which it is hoped to be introduced into service in the near future.
The Software Unit is also the college’s interface when dealing with companies that provide digital systems services and when contracting to purchase systems and supervising their operation.
- Computer and Network Maintenance Unit
The unit’s tasks focus on the technical aspects of informatics within the framework of supporting and assisting the rest of the college’s formations in these fields. For example, but not limited to, it does the following:
1- Equipping the college with Internet service by obtaining equipment offers from local companies and managing and maintaining the college’s internal network.
2- Providing the infrastructure for digital systems needed by the college’s formations and providing technical support and advice when operating them.
Information Technology also established the computer network in the new building of the deanship during the summer of 2021 and moved the network’s main equipment room from its previous location in the administrative sector to the deanship, and this was accompanied by the rehabilitation of all network joints with a new vision. It also connected the Deanship building with the scientific departments with an optical cable to enhance the performance of the internal network.
Information Technology has completed a long-term plan to rehabilitate computer laboratory networks in all scientific departments, as well as training halls in the continuing education unit.
The size of the internal network at the Al-Khwarizmi College of Engineering is more than 40 wireless access points distributed throughout the college buildings, all of which provide Internet service to the teaching and administrative staff there.
Information Technology established a wired network in the Preliminary Studies Student Affairs Division and a corresponding network in the Legal Division to support them in the task of receiving and registering those accepted in the first stage.
The Information Technology Division also undertakes the task of supervising the official e-mail accounts of the college’s members, including faculty, students, and administrative units, in cooperation and coordination with the Website Division at the Presidency of the University of Baghdad.
The location of the Information Technology Division is on the first floor of the Deanship building, and it can be contacted at
