The master thesis of the graduate Marwa Saad Abdel Ameer, a candidate for a master’s degree, was defended on Monday morning 27th of Jan,2025 at Al-Khwarizmi Central Hall and Professor Dr. Alaa Karim Muhammed, college of AL-Khwarizmi, Biochemical engineering department, at Baghdad University, was chaired the thesis committee that consisted of professor Dr. Talib Muhammed Nayif, Technology university, Chemical engineering department,  professor Dr. Mahmood Khazeal, Baghdad university, Chemical engineering department and supervised by Professor Dr. Muhammed Abd Attya Al-Sarraj, Al-Khwarizmi college at Baghdad university. After the candidate had finished the defense, the chair of the committee announced the degree of excellence awarded to the candidate for her research findings which are summarized:

This study investigates the elimination of antibiotic tetracycline (TC) utilizing a green photocatalytic copper oxide/zinc oxide nanocomposite synthesized through the liquid-phase reduction process. It employs eucalyptus leaf extract as both a reducing and capping agent (CuO/ZnO—NCs). Different molar ratios of Cu to Zn salts (1:3, 1:6, 1:9, and 1:12) were used.

Characterization techniques were applied to the produced nanocomposite such as Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDAX), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier- Transformed Infrared Radiation (FT-IR), Brunauer- Emmet- Teller (BET), and zeta potential. The study examined the effect of the most significant variables such as pH, (CuO/ZnO) NCs dosage and the catalyst height, initial TC concentration, H2O2 dosage, UV intensity, flow rate, and temperature on the photocatalytic process using a batch and continuous mode. In addition, the kinetic study and thermodynamic parameters for photocatalytic reactions such as ∆𝐺°, ∆𝐻°, and ∆𝑆° were studied.
