Human Rights Unit
A brief description of the Human Rights Unit at Al-Khwarizmi College of Engineering
The Human Rights Union is one of the administrative and scientific units that aims to promote human rights concepts among students, faculty members, and personnel, as well as foster a culture of justice, equity, and respect for others in accordance with international and national standards.
The unit aims to instill human values within the university environment, promoting the university’s role in shaping a generation committed to social responsibility through education and awareness activities, in coordination with respective authorities.
Duties of Human Rights Unit – Al-Khwarizmi College of Engineering.
- Promoting a culture of Human rights
- Organizing workshops, symposiums, and awareness lectures for students and staff.
- Preparing educational materials (brochures, posters, e-posts) on human rights concepts.
- Promoting humanitarian values within the university environment.
- Fostering justice principles, equity, and mutual respect inside the college.
- Detect any case related to discrimination, rights violations inside the university, and report it to the concerned bodies.
- Liaising with Human Rights institutions
- Collaboration with The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) and respective organizations to boost mutual activities.
- Participating in conferences and activities related to human rights domestically and internationally.
- Including concepts of human rights in educational activities.
- Proposing inclusion of materials related to human rights as part of some modules or student projects.
- Boosting scientific research related to human rights issues in engineering and the community context.
- Following up on complaints and counseling.
- Receiving students’ or staff complaints about violations of rights, and forwarding them to specialized authorities if needed.
- Providing primary advising for cases related to academic or personal rights.
