On Monday morning, May 20, 2024, a master’s thesis authored by Mustafa Majed Hussein, a student from the Department of Automated Manufacturing Engineering, was deliberated upon in the graduate studies discussion room at the college. The committee, chaired by Professor Dr. Adel Khalil Mahmoud from the University of Diyala’s College of Engineering in the Materials Engineering department, included Dr. Ziad Iyad Taha from the University of Baghdad’s Mechanical Engineering department at the Laser Institute, and Dr. Wissam Thamer Abboud from the Department of Automated Manufacturing at Al-Khwarizmi College of Engineering. The thesis was conducted under the supervision of Professor Enas Abdel Karim Khaled from the Department of Automated Manufacturing at Al-Khwarizmi College of Engineering. Following the student’s presentation, the committee chair announced that the researcher had received a distinction for the work.
The master’s thesis by Mustafa Majed Hussein from the Department of Automated Manufacturing Engineering was discussed on Monday, May 20, 2024, at the college’s graduate studies discussion room. Chaired by Professor Adel Khalil Mahmoud from the University of Diyala’s College of Engineering, the committee also included Dr. Ziad Iyad Taha from the University of Baghdad’s Mechanical Engineering department at the Laser Institute and Dr. Wissam Thamer Abboud from Al-Khwarizmi College of Engineering. The thesis, supervised by Professor Enas Abdel Karim Khaled, focused on studying the impact of laser parameters on the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of stainless steel grade 316. Surface treatment was conducted using a pulsed fiber laser, and various laser parameters were manipulated to modify the surface. Optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy were employed to analyze the microstructure, while X-ray diffraction was used to identify phases before and after treatment. Results indicated that increasing laser power led to changes in surface microhardness, impacting corrosion and wear resistance. Moreover, XRD analysis revealed alterations in the metal’s phases.
