Al-Khwarizmi College of Engineering participated in the sixth exhibition of patents and industrial models organized by the Industrial Research and Development Authority in the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Alaa Karim Muhammad, the Head of the Department of Biochemical Engineering, and a group of the faculty members in the scientific department, in addition to professors of the Departments of Information and Communications Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Mechatronics Engineering, with broad participation from the state’s scientific, academic, and service institutions. The exhibition was opened by the advisor of the Ministry of Industry and Minerals where he, the adviser, honored a professor, Prof. Dr. Ali Hussein Abbar, and a master’s student, engineer Marwa Mohsen Jiyad, of the Department of Biochemical Engineering at Al-Khwarizmi College of Engineering by giving them the Shield of Excellence for the best innovative industrial model participating in the exhibition.
The model entitled (Designing a system consisting of an innovative electrochemical reactor and a Photobioreactor to treat wastewater coming out of Al-Dawra and Al-Diwaniyah refineries) can be beneficial in treating wastewater resulting from various industrial sectors in the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, such as textile and dye factories, tanning factories, chemical factories that produce organic chemicals, detergents, and others. What is noteworthy is the possibility of reusing the water that has been treated with the current system in agricultural land irrigation operations, or it can be recycled for the factory or refinery itself to be used for various purposes. The exhibition also witnessed honoring professors of the Information and Communications Engineering Department with certificates of excellence for their scientific researches, in addition to awarding them the gold medal in appreciation of their excellence and creativity.
