the college organized a workshop entitled “True Partnership between Scientific Research and the Industry Sector to Develop Solutions to Corrosion Issues” in collaboration with the Iraqi Corrosion Center, the Industrial Research and Development Authority, and the Ministry of Industry and Minerals.

The workshop brought together specialists and stakeholders to produce knowledge, with faculty members from the Department of Biochemical Engineering at the Al-Khwarizmi College of Engineering and experts from the Iraqi Corrosion Center and the Production Engineering and Minerals Department at the University of Technology participating. Attendees included the Director General of the Industrial Research and Development Authority, specialists, university professors, and interested postgraduate students.

The workshop began with a recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, the reading of the national anthem, and a moment of silence to read Surat Al-Fatihah for the souls of the martyrs. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Wadud Taher Muhammad, the Dean of the Al-Khwarizmi College of Engineering, Prof. Alaa Karim Muhammad, the Head of the Department of Biochemical Engineering, and Senior Chief Engineer Muthanna Muhammad Qasim, the Director of the Iraqi Corrosion Center.

The workshop featured lectures on various topics related to corrosion, including cathode protection and limiting corrosion in industrial and oil facilities, the driving force of corrosion, electrochemical impedance spectrometer as an effective tool for studying electrochemical systems, and protection against corrosion by electrostatic deposition in the form of a nanoprotective layer. Prof. Alaa Karim Muhammad chaired the session, with Senior Chief Engineer Muthanna Muhammad Qassem serving as its Rapporteur.

Dr. Ahmed Younes Qassem, the Director General of the Industrial Research and Development Authority, praised the level of interest and sponsorship for the workshop and wished success to the lecturers in their dissertations, encouraging interested parties to benefit from the knowledge presented.

The workshop highlighted the importance of partnership between scientific research and the industry and oil sectors in developing solutions to corrosion problems faced by the Iraqi industry. It also emphasized that scientific research is fundamental to social, economic, and cultural development in the Iraqi labor market, as well as being a crucial aspect of human knowledge in all its fields.

Attendees stressed the importance of real participation to unify efforts to advance the issue of research erosion and create a stimulating and supportive environment for distinguished scientific research that achieves scientific leadership and sustainable development. They noted the need to eliminate the gap between scientific research and its fields of application, and to achieve full coordination between specialized research institutions and the various sectors of the state, in order to meet challenges and achieve collective goals.

At the conclusion of the workshop, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Al-Khwarizmi and the Director General of the Industrial Research and Development Authority awarded the lecturers certificates of appreciation for their efforts.
